Chapel Bridge      Constructed in the 14th century, the Chapel Bridge is named after nearby St. Peter’s chapel. The paintings that were added in the 17th century illustrate scenes of the City’s history. The attached octagonal Water Tower - Lucerne’s trademark - was build around 1300.   Historical, fresco painted buildings border the old city on the right bank of the Reuss at a few picturesque squares. Especially attractive are the Weinmarkt, the Hirschenplatz and the Kornmarkt square which features the Town Hall and beautifully painted Pfistern guildhall.

Ballenberg Open air Museum

Ballenberg - Switzerland as it once was With almost 100 original century-old buildings from all over Switzerland, "historical" gardens and fields, demonstrations of typical crafts, many special events and 250 native farmyard animals Ballenberg creates a vivid impression of rural life in bygone days. Ballenberg is in fact absolutely unique. The doors are open Come in and have a look round the kitchens, bedrooms and living-rooms of reconstructed original houses and farm buildings from past centuries. In the extensive grounds, a total area of 660 000 square metres, typical houses and settlements from almost every canton in Switzerland can be seen. In our workshops, craftsmen, using authentic tools, demonstrate old handcrafts and trades: from wood-carving, basket-weaving, spinning, weaving, bobbin-lace making and forging to making cheese and baking bread. You can see them close-up and even have a go yourself. To sum up: Ballenberg is not just a dusty museum, but bursting with life. Discover how, for centuries, the majority of the Swiss population lived and worked. Special demonstrations such as washday, the autumn market or alpine herd procession revive some hitherto almost forgotten rural customs and festivals again: impressive, unique experiences!   Ballenberg can be reached by railway either via Interlaken or Lucerne straight to Brienz or to Brünig. There is a regular bus from the railway stations at Brienz and Brünig to Ballenberg.
Rural life from bygone days makes a vivid impression with the more than 100 century-old buildings from all over Switzerland, 250 farmyard animals, historical gardens and fields, demonstrations of typical crafts and many special events. And they all make the Ballenberg a unique place.
