A walk from Florence to Sienna

This magnificent walk starts and finishes in two of the most beautiful cities in Italy – Renaissance Florence and Medieval Siena, passing through some of the most celebrated countryside in Europe, a unique landscape of rolling hills, vineyards, olive groves, isolated farmhouses and ancient villages, moulded by over three millennia of settlement. The varied trail passes through the famous vineyards and medieval market towns of the Chianti district, as well as the pine and oak forests.

On the walk, you pass some of the most attractive villages and towns in Italy, the magnificent abbeys of Passignano and Coltibuono and the famous castles of Meleto and Brolio.

All the walks follow well-marked paths, generally along quiet graded country roads. Orientation is straightforward but requires some experience and there are several walks longer than 15 kms (and some longer climbs).

Accommodation is in good 3-star family run hotels, except for the final night in Brolio, where you will stay in one of the finest hotels in the Chianti, a magnificent 4-star hotel set in a restored 11th century convent – a fitting finale to your visit to the district.
