A 4 day, 3 night family break in the Dordogne Valley

A self-drive tour to the lovely Dordogne Valley taking in the best aspects and activities of the region which will interest both adults and children. Travelling through this region is an exploration through time, a chance to uncover layers of prehistory, history and plain old tradition.

Suggested Itinerary:
DAY 1: ARRIVE BORDEAUX AND TRANSFER TO BRIVE (L,D)
Begin the tour with a 1 hour drive to Saint Emilon for lunch.  Stroll around the lovely city then drive in the afternoon to Perigord in the Dordogne Vallley. First night at Brive in a four star chateau hotel, made famous by the writer Colette, close to Brive.

DAY 2: ROCAMADOUR & LES CAVES DE PADRIAC (B,L,D)
Depart for Rocamadour via the wonderful city of Colonges la Rouge, classed amongst the most beautiful villages in France. Visit Rocamadoour and take a light lunch or picnic. The town’s buildings defy the balance laws, and the old towers fall sharply along the craggy hill. You will finish the afternoon with a visit at the "caves of Padirac", where you will discover an extraordinary subterranean landscapes and lakes by canoe. Return to Brive in the late afternoon.

DAY 3: MARKETS, THE LASCAUX CAVES & CANOEING (B,L)
Stroll around the famous market place of Brive, and then, set off to Les Eyzies, a town in the Dordogne famous for its contribution to human history with the discovery of the Lascaux caves. (Visit to Lascaux 2, the facsimile caves developed constructed 20 years ago). Regional lunch in typical Dordogne Valley "perigourdine" country inn. In the afternoon, canoe or kayak down the Dordogne river from the village of Cenac. Then continue to Sarlat, for a private guided discovery of this unique city. Return to your hotel in the evening.

DAY 4:  MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR AND DEPARTURE (B,L)
Drive to Lac du Causse, close to Brive la Gaillarde, for a mountain bike tour and picnic around the lake.  In the early afternoon travel to Brive train station and depart the Dordogne Valley to Paris by train.
